Magra Forest Rest House

Magra FRH is located on the Dehradun-Mussoorie-Suakholi-Thatyur state highway, 20km from Mussoorie town. Built in 1952 this old FRH is offers an excellent opportunity for trekking and is perhaps the best place for bird watchers during summer and autumn.

Trekking routes include Magra to Suakholi and to Thatyur amidst thick forests of deodar, oak and rhododendron. 52 bird species have been reported from the Magra-Thatyur trek route 5km. The notable birds sighted are kalij, pheasant, grey-headed woodpecker, Himalayan griffon, freen shrike babbler, blue whistling thrush, yellow-billed flycatcher, white-capped water redstart, Eurasian jay, streaked laughing thrush, bar-tailed tree creeper, pied wagtail etc.

Short treks to Binog wildlife Sanctuary listed as an important Birding Area (IBA), 4km and to Suakholi 3km are also pleasant. One can also take a long trek upto Buranskhanda for striking views of the Himalayan peaks during winter.
